Method #1: How to Sublimate a Tumbler?

If you have done sublimating on ceramic mugs then this will be quite simple for you. If you are a new bee then this is the right option to get a start over with. This method will include five steps which are described below:

1) Equipment required:
You will need the following equipment for working with this method. All of them are easily available at stores as well as you can order them online too. (links attached for ease.)

You can have a 16 oz or 20 oz tumbler. Having a white tumbler will be a benefit for having the best print colors. Polyester coating on the surface will give you better results.

2) Selecting the graphics:

Make a mind about your customized tumbler-to-be. Select a picture from your gallery or download it from the internet. You will surely get your dream image. Whatever picture you have downloaded, you have to put it in a square box in any photoshop application. Check the dimensions according to your drinkware.

3) Printing and Wrapping the picture:
Your graphic is just about to get printed on the sublimation paper. Mirror your image before the printing process. Because it will transfer the mirror image of the actual picture on the drinkware. Send it to the printer and grab the printout next second.

Now you just have to wrap this printed paper on your tumbler. The best part about the tumbler is that it has no handle so you can print it fully. You should not have to leave any gap. The background will be fully covered with the print. The print should be wrapped around tightly and firmly. The beginning of the paper will meet the ending and at this point tape it with heat resistant tape. Be sure that your image should not overlap. Tape all the edges from the top and bottom of the tumbler also.

4) Placing the Tumbler in Mug press:
Cover your wrapped product with butcher paper for safety measures. Place it in mug press. If it is smaller in size than the mug press, then fill the gap by putting folded butcher papers beside the tumbler. Folded papers will help to fit in the tumbler tightly. Pressing each side for 3 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. As the mug press is shorter in height. Turn the tumbler upside down for printing that part of it. Again press each side for 3 minutes.

5) Removal of Tumbler from Mug press:
By using heat-resistant gloves gently remove your product. It is made of steel and coming out of 400 degrees so it will be really hot. Try removing the tape and have look at your brilliant print on the tumbler.

Method #2: How to Sublimate a Tumbler?

This is a bit different from the prior method because of the different materials used in it. it will replace the mug press with a heat gun and the oven. All the tools used in this procedure are mostly present in every household. All the equipment are listed below:

  • Laptop
  • Sublimation Printer
  • Sublimation Papers
  • White tumbler
  • Heat gun
  • Heat resistant tape
  • Heat resistant gloves
  • Convention oven
  • Shrink Sleeve

The printing and wrapping process is the same as used in the first method. After wrapping the sublimation printed paper around the drinkware you wrap it in the shrink sleeve. After that heat it with the heat gun. Remember to wear your gloves. It will start shrinking from top and bottom as well. It will cover the whole stainless steel with a shrink wrapper.

Heading to the next step where you will replace the mug press with the convection oven. Put the bottle in the oven for 65 minutes at 400 degrees. Remove it carefully as it will be so hot. Remove the tape and all the coverings. You will have a great sight of the vibrant colors of your print in the tumbler.
